The Brothers return to action next Saturday travelling to Wigan to take on Ince Rose Bridge for the first time post Covid

This has been a regular contest since 2018 with the teams competing for the Brodie Lee Shield, presented by the Ince club to mark the fixture. The Brodie Lee in question is of course our own Brodie Lee Butler who played for ‘the Bridge’ before joining the RN. Brodie is one of three players on our books as well as being registered with Ince, the other two being Danny Dainty and Matty Gaskell. In fact the link between the two clubs goes back a bit further in that our Chairman Cdr Sean Heaton RN played for Ince in his school days!
Both teams lost their 2nd Round Challenge Cup games which frees up this weekend allowing the game to go ahead. Whilst the Brothers have not played since the heavy defeat in Wales ‘The Bridge’ opened their NCL Div. 1 Season with a victory over York Based Heworth last weekend.
The last meeting between the teams was notable for 2 reasons, firstly the Brothers took the game 18:2 with Brodie himself scoring the Brother first try to record their first victory over the Ince Club. Secondly this was the last game RNRL was to play for 18 months as, barely 3 weeks later, Covid 19 Lockdown was imposed and that was it for RNRL until November 2021.
