Keith Humpleby8 Oct 2022 - 14:07

As hinted at in a previous post and to wrap up the season the final award has gone to our very own No 6 Darren Bamford!

The UKAFRL Committee selected ‘Bamfs’ as the most outstanding player from the men’s senior competition in this years Inter Services Series and as such receives the Scott Stevenson Memorial Trophy to reflect his achievement.
.Whilst most watching this year’s IS Series will remember his goal kicking notably the touchline conversion giving the RN the win over the Army he has been consistently at the heart of the teams achievements from his favored Stand Off position. After a few attempts to leave the playing squad Bamfs has now retired from playing and will move onto pastures new to be announced in the near future

All at Royal Navy Rugby League are delighted to see ‘Bamfs’ recognised in this way and the award rounds off his fabulous season and playing career.

For those new to Inter Services Rugby League the citation and background to the Award is as follows:

The Scott Stevenson Memorial trophy was donated by Soldiers League charity as an enduring memorial to Scotty who sadly passed following the 2019 Army v RAF fixture. The trophy depicts the 1 the shirt worn by Scotty for the RAF and UKAFRL. It is awarded to the most outstanding player from the senior men’s game during the entirety of the IS tournament. The player is selected by the UKAFRL committee. The first presentation of the trophy was done by Scott’s parent at the 2021 IS. The recipient Ben Mellor then re-presented the trophy to Scott’s parents on behalf of the Armed Forces Rugby League community.
